During a consultation, a client informs me that she wears waterproof mascara, eyeliner and long-lasting lip color.  She is a realtor and must look her best every day.  She wants to schedule to have her permanent makeup eyeliner, eyebrows and lip procedures completed as soon as possible, but we have to wait.  Here’s why.

First, the products that she is using contain glue.  This is why they last so long.  She is using these products every day, so in order for her to have her permanent makeup procedures be successful, she must stop using them and let the skin return to normal. The use of these products have built layers, upon layers of glue and dead skin cells on that area.   In the past, when attempting to tattoo a client in this similar situation, I discovered that I could NOT get my pigment to penetrate into the skin – it was as if my needle literally was bouncing off of the skin.

My recommendation to this client was to wait at least 3 weeks and give the skin an opportunity to fully exfoliate that built-up of product.  Because of this, we scheduled her permanent makeup procedures for the following month.

By waiting, this client had a very successful permanent makeup session.  Pigment implanted easily and she departed my studio very happy.  The best news is that she looks her best, not only every day, but when she wakes up in the morning, gets out of the shower or even during exercise.
